Nani Rome will be the leader of the ranks of Forda new manufacturer that started the adventure of dakar rally. This Wednesday it became official that the American brand will compete with two Rangers in the Dakar 2024with the Spaniard and Gareth Woolridge at the wheel.
The Ford Ranger T1+ (which will only compete in the next edition of the Arab race from 2025 will be replaced by a new model, the Ranger Raptor) has been in development since the end of 2022. Since then, M-Sport and Neil Woolridge Motorsport ( NWM) -the two structures that formed the oval brand project- completed more than 10,000 kilometers of tests, some of which already had Roma at the wheel (also, during this time, Laia Sanz tested it).
The competitive debut of the Ford Ranger T1+ and Nani Roma (co-driven by Álex Haro) will take place in just a few weeks, at the Baja Aragón that will take place on July 21 and 22.
A career in which, in addition, the Spaniard is a specialist. Nani returns to the pilot after a year and a half without doing it. Toyota, along with Nasser Al-Attiyah and Audi, which will field three of its cars, will be its main rivals.
Roma is the only Spanish driver who has achieved victory in the Dakar in car (2014) and motorcycle (2004, in what was the first victory of the Spaniard in the African race at the time) and one of the most participations to his credit : that in 2024 will be the 27th. Since 1998 he has only missed last year, where his preparations were affected by bladder cancer which he successfully overcame.
