Including maize – Two more cargo ships departed from Ukraine

Date:

Two more cargo ships carrying agricultural products have left Ukraine, Turkey’s defense ministry said. One ship carries corn, the other sunflower seeds. Both have Turkey as their destination.

The “Fulmar S”, flying the flag of Barbados, is to bring 12,000 tons of maize to Turkey’s southern province of Iskenderun. The “Thoe”, on the other hand, sails under the flag of the Marshall Islands and carries 3,000 tons of sunflower seeds. This ship is aimed at the Turkish city of Tekirdag, the Turkish Defense Ministry said. Both walked out of Chornomorsk harbor.

16 freighters to date since agreement
With the two ships, a total of 16 cargo ships have now left Ukraine’s Black Sea ports since Ukraine and Russia agreed a grain deal in mid-July. This is intended to prevent global grain and food shortages and was mediated by Turkey and the United Nations.

The first ship with grain was the “Razoni”, which was to go to Lebanon. However, the buyer of the 26,000 tons of maize withdrew from the purchase contract because the delivery was delayed by five months due to the war in Ukraine. A buyer was then found in Turkey. Later, among other things, a freighter with wheat left the port of Chornomorsk.
