Tragic accident late Saturday in Pettneu am Arlberg in the Tyrolean district of Landeck: A local motorcyclist (53) came into the oncoming lane and collided head-on with an oncoming car. Unfortunately, all help for the Tyrolean came too late.
The terrible traffic accident happened around 11.15 am on the L68 Stanzertalstraße near Pettneu. A 53-year-old Austrian had come into contact with the oncoming lane at an exit on the bend on Stanzertaler Landesstraße (L68) in the municipality of Pettneu am Arlberg with his motorcycle.
Thrown in the meadow by impact
There he collided head-on with an oncoming car driven by a 30-year-old Austrian. As a result of the impact, the motorcyclist was thrown over the sloping embankment into an adjacent meadow, where he remained with serious injuries and eventually succumbed to his injuries at the accident site.
Woman injured by shrapnel
The engine bounced off the vehicle and landed on the embankment. Shortly after the collision, the woman’s car came to a stop. “The driver of the car suffered cuts from broken glass. She received first aid from the emergency room doctor and went to medical treatment on her own,” said a police officer at Krone’s request.
Road closed for two hours
The L68 was closed to all traffic in the vicinity of the accident site for approximately two hours. A diversion has been put in place via the S16 Arlberg Motorway. Rescue and emergency physicians, a helicopter, police and fire brigade were deployed.
