“All you can do is pray, cross your fingers and hope. My good thoughts are with you,” is the condolences of the “Krone” readers after the dramatic biogas accident in Pucking in Upper Austria. And maybe it helped.
Asked by Krone on Saturday, Elisabethinen Hospital in Linz said: “The patient’s condition has stabilized. But she is still in intensive care.” And her husband’s health gradually improved, but he too is still in intensive care at the Wels hospital.
Wife still wanted to save her husband
As reported, the couple was found unconscious by their son in the silo on a farm. According to the police, it was the 58-year-old who first became unconscious while working at the biogas plant. His 55-year-old wife tried to save her husband from the danger zone herself, but also collapsed. The fire brigade eventually found the two folds under respiratory protection.
The couple may have inhaled too much carbon dioxide, a colorless gas released in combustion and fermentation processes. Because carbon dioxide is heavier than air, it sinks to the ground and concentrations above 12 percent are immediately lethal.
