“Terrible expenses” – FPÖ wants to clarify processes in the aid organization Corona

Date:

If the FPÖ has its way, the VP’s Commission of Inquiry must investigate the events at the Corona aid organization COFAG. This is especially true for positions such as that of Bernhard Perner as general manager, says Christian Hafenecker, leader of the liberal group in the U-committee.

Perner was appointed by the then ÖVP Finance Minister Gernot Blümel and “was awarded €455,000 in 2020 in his dual role as ABBAG (state mining company, note) and COFAG boss,” Hafenecker criticized. “The blacks are apparently blowing off the cost of tax payments like there is no tomorrow – and the Greens got involved by enabling the creation of COFAG and thus the abolition of parliamentary control in the first place,” he said in a broadcast. .

The Court of Auditors has already criticized the aid organisation
The U-Commission must provide clarification “where possible”. He criticized the fact that the company was set up so quickly, without examining alternatives, the high costs for consultants and an expensive supervisory board. There were potential conflicts of interest, the officials actually responsible would not have been involved.

The remuneration of the general manager Perner, who is close to the ÖVP, is also questioned in the report. According to Hafenecker, the ÖVP spent 21 million euros on external consultants.

The ÖVP U-Commission will continue after a summer break on 6 September. Among others, the short confidant René Benko is expected.
