Date:

According to the general secretary of LAB, Garbiñe Aranburu, agreements must be made to regain purchasing power. In this sense, he has talked about distributing wealth and setting a maximum salary.

The general secretary of LAB, Garbine Aranburu, predicts that this year’s collective bargaining will be contradictory due to the general price increase. In an interview with the Euskadi Irratia program “Faktoria”, he insisted that LAB will defend the preservation of purchasing power because “the workers cannot always be the ones who suffer the consequences”. As he has said, at the moment the employers have shown no will and some sectors have already announced strikes and mobilizations, such as in the metal sector of Álava.

Garbiñe Aranburu advocates the distribution of wealth and the setting of a maximum salary. In this regard, he is particularly concerned about the gap between the masculinized and the feminized sectors.

On the other hand, he has reproached the Basque finance minister, Pedro Azpiazú, go further than the Confebask employers who say that increasing salaries based on the CPI is impossible. “We find it unacceptable to hear statements like this from a person with political responsibility,” Aranburu said.

Asked by the March unemployment data, the LAB representative referred to the latest labor reform. According to him, the increase in permanent contracts is the result of the labor reform. In any case, he believes that the positive effects of this rule will somehow be negated if no other measures are taken. In this sense, he does not believe that the new labor reform represents a step forward.

Aranburu explained that LAB will continue to fight through collective bargaining against the gravest consequences of the labor reform However, he does not rule out more general mobilizations. “At the moment we are working to overcome the consequences of the labor reform through industrial action,” he concluded.

Finally, according to Garbiñe Aranburu, the profits of the large energy companies should be taxed. In this regard, he expressed his concern about the pressure that employers could put on the Basque government to change the tax system, in the context of the visit of the President of the Community of Madrid.
