Pharmaceutical Johnson & Johnson announced that in 2023 suspends sales of its baby powder around the world, two years after it was made in the US and Canada under pressure from thousands of product safety complaints.
In a brief note, the company said it has made a “business decision” to… replace talcum powder with cornstarch about this child product after receiving some 38,000 lawsuits linking its long-term use to cancer development, though it continued to deny that it was the cause.
In late 2018, information surfaced suggesting that J&J had known for decades that: their talcum powder contained asbestosa mineral with a composition and properties comparable to those of asbestos and with harmful effects on health.
Since then, J&J has faced thousands of lawsuits accusing the manufacturer of contributing to the development of ovarian cancer of consumers, an extreme that the company rejects and that every year has led him to spend millions of dollars on lawsuits.
The company faces other legal challenges in the US and earlier this year agreed to pay millions of dollars to several states, along with other major drug distributors, for their responsibilities in the opioid crisis.
