Challenging times always present opportunities. In the first half of 2022, 4,605 entrepreneurs in Austria took the leap to self-employment.
With 4,605 start-ups in the first half of 2022, Vienna once again defended its title as the start-up capital of Austria. Because: Almost a quarter (22.6 percent) of all start-ups take place in Vienna, says Barbara Havel, chairman of the board of directors of Junge Wirtschaft Wien and representative of the Viennese founders.
Venture capital is available
Given the difficult current situation, these numbers are more than impressive. The financial preconditions certainly have a favorable effect in this area as well. In the first half of 2022, Austrian start-ups received more fresh capital than ever before. With a total of 881 million euros, the volume of the same period last year was exceeded by 67 percent. That is the conclusion of Ernst & Young’s economic advisers.
Founders want to be independent
However, the road to independence rarely has financial reasons. “The motivational research proves that founders want to take matters into their own hands and actively use their business ideas to help shape our city and the economy,” Havel said. Vienna is the right place for this.
