Weeks after US President Joe Biden recovered, First Lady Jill Biden has now also tested positive for the coronavirus. According to the White House, she will be isolated and begin antiviral treatment.
“After testing negative for COVID-19 as part of her regular testing Monday, the first lady began developing cold symptoms late in the evening,” Jill’s spokeswoman Elizabeth Alexander said in a statement. “A rapid antigen test was negative again, but a PCR test gave a positive result.”
“Double vaccinated and changed twice”
According to reports from The Washington Post, Alexander noted that the 71-year-old is “double vaccinated and twice boosted and has only mild symptoms”. The first lady has been prescribed antiviral therapy Paxlovid and will isolate herself from others for at least five days, as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“Close contacts of the first lady have been made aware,” Alexander said. “She is currently in a private residence in South Carolina and will return home after two consecutive negative COVID tests,” Alexander said.
US President Joe Biden tested positive for Covid-19 twice in July. The 79-year-old is said to have had only mild symptoms.
