Resigned – The next pastor follows the call of love

Date:

With Karol Pytraczyk, another priest in Styria turns his back on the church. One reason, besides love for a woman, is the increasing workload for pastors.

Of the many reasons that prompted Karol Pytraczyk (Riegersburg/Breitenfeld parish) to resign as a priest, one in particular stood out: love for a woman. He thought about it for a long time and after 13 years as a priest, he made this decision explicitly.

The priest explains that in addition to the celibate life, the current situation in the church, the high intensity of the administration of the sacraments and the resulting fatigue determined his withdrawal. “It’s not possible for me to lead a double life,” says Pytraczyk.

“God will be by my side”
That is why he asked Bishop Wilhelm Krautwaschl to dismiss him from his job as a provisional officer and to start a legalization procedure from September. “Faith is important to me. God will be by my side even in this difficult phase,” said the outgoing priest, who always did his best.

reason for action
Erich Linhardt, Vicar General of the Diocese of Graz-Seckau, thanked Pytraczyk for his dedicated efforts and also said: “The fatigue he mentioned from overtime must be a cause for action.” Because: Karol Pytraczyk is already the second pastor this year after Andreas Monschein to retire as a priest in Styria.

There are currently 370 diocesan and religious priests for 50 pastoral chambers in the diocese. The priests, who often care for several parishes, have more and more work to do. Many are very challenged by this. “We should try to relieve priests,” Linhardt said.
