Next million dollar fine in the construction cartel that was caught in 2017! After fines had already been imposed on Strabag, Porr and Swietelsky, the Upper Austrian construction group HABAU is now being asked to pay. A fine of 26.33 million euros is due.
134.8 million euros! Until now, the total fines that Strabag, Porr and Swietelsky had to pay were so high. Now the next big construction company has to pay in the construction cartel that was busted in 2017 – HABAU. The construction group from Perg (Upper Austria) will be fined EUR 26.33 million according to the application of the Federal Competition Authority, which has found a total of four HABAU companies guilty.
The cartel involved price fixing, market sharing and information exchange related to public and private tenders for construction. The HABAU group has already recognized the crimes committed between 2002 and 2017 and the amount of the fine. For Strabag, the penalty could be higher than previously thought. The Federal Competition Authority has already announced that it will review the decision again if new facts become known.
