UGT asks the CEOE “day and time” to unclog the salary increase

September has started with many outstanding challenges for UGT. Chief among these is the increase in wages, which is the “fundamental target” for the latter part of the year. This was emphasized by the general secretary, Pepe Álvarez, during the traditional informational breakfast he holds with the media at the start of the course.

Álvarez made it clear that they will not give up their efforts to unblock negotiations on a new collective agreement (AENC) that will mark the path of wages for the coming years and that takes inflation into account. “We want the AENC, we are on time, we want it to become the instrument that collects the entire salary of the workers of the country,” he said. And so he sent a direct message to the CEOE, who he accused of being “responsible” for most of the agreements not being renewed: “I ask the CEO to make an appointment. Time and day. When you whatever you want, with stenographers or not.

The union leader warned that negotiations “must be resumed as soon as possible if we do not want this country to enter a spiral of conflict”. He even warned that they are preparing a calendar of mobilizations with the CCOO. However, Álvarez was open to making wage guarantee clauses more flexible, the major stumbling block for which negotiations failed, noting that his proposal was a 3.5% increase in 2022 with a clause that 50% would be paid until the end of the year. years and the remaining 50% can be postponed to 2025. “We have moved, we have already made more flexible and we are waiting for the proposal from the CEOE,” he said.

In that sense, UGT will also commit to a minimum wage of 1,100 euros by 2023, slightly above what it expects in the proposal of the commission, which sets 60% of the average salary at 1,075-1,080 euros.

On the other hand, Álvarez announced that they will propose to the government next week to create a rescue fund for families who have mortgages and have difficulty paying the fee due to the escalation of the Euribor, which represents an increase in 150 can mean. euros per month for a mortgage of 200,000 euros. “In this country, banks have been rescued, companies have been rescued, the self-employed… We cannot stop trying to rescue families who will have a hard time dealing with the consequences of rising interest rates in Spain,” he said. His approach would be to allocate some 450 million to these families, which could be obtained at least partly from the new bank tax.

On the other hand, the general secretary of the UGT warned the Minister of Social Security, José Luis Escrivá, before the first meeting they will hold next Monday for the second phase of the pension reform, that they will “in no way” accept any extension of the calculation period for the calculation of the pension. “For us, it’s fine the way it is. It is a fair and reasonable system,” he said. Of course, he was happy to agree when he suggested that one could be chosen within 25 years of calculation.
