The federal government’s energy-saving campaign “Mission 11” (see video above) is seen by environmental organizations and traffic clubs as a first step in the right direction. But they are calling for further action, including a new energy efficiency law. The NEOS and the SPÖ are also in favor of this.
Energy consumption must be reduced in the long term, phasing out natural gas for heating and extensive building renovations are further necessary steps, emphasize Greenpeace and WWF. The Austrian Traffic Club (VCÖ) sees further savings opportunities in the field of mobility and advocates lower speed limits and abolition of tax benefits for company cars with combustion engines.
ÖAMTC: Carpooling and “Green Wave”
The ÖAMTC also locates opportunities in traffic Energy to save, but not with speed limits, but by turning the traffic light into a “green wave”, more home office and promoting carpooling. For NEOS, the energy-saving campaign comes “months late”. They are also calling for a new energy efficiency law.
For the SPÖ, such a law should have been in place before calling on the population to save. “It is incomprehensible that the minister himself is passing important laws to reduce energy consumption and instead calls on every Austrian to save energy,” the Social Democrats write in a broadcast.
