High food and energy costs have forced innkeepers to raise their prices. The “Krone” asked how much at most the Viennese would pay for a schnitzel.
Viennese inns and restaurants in particular are suffering from the exploding costs due to inflation. For a veal sausage with parsley potatoes and salad you already pay 28.50 euros in an inn in the 17th arrondissement. This amount is mainly due to rising personnel and food costs, explains operator Martin Pichlmaier.
If you include the higher energy prices, the schnitzel quickly costs 40 euros, says restaurant spokesman Peter Dobcak. Many hosts are now concerned about their customers. Dobcak warns that very few diners are willing to pay such amounts for a plate of breaded meat.
Where is the price pain line
What is the maximum amount of euros that the Viennese would actually pay for a schnitzel? At the Spittelau metro station, the “Krone” asked about the price-pain limit for the Austrian main course.
