In the current survey, the research series “This is how Austria thinks” by the opinion polling institute TQS has shown a clear recasting of the fears and concerns of the local population: “The issue of price increases and inflation is now clearly in the first place behind them in the war Ukraine – and the previous leader, the corona pandemic, comes only in third place,” said Dieter Scharitzer, general director of TQS and professor at the Vienna University of Economics and Business. The environmental problem is also losing relevance – it is currently only fourth, well behind the problem of inflation.
Already more than half of the people – exactly 54 percent of all respondents – say they have only “less” or “much less” financial resources than before the pandemic. Which also has an effect on leisure behaviour: Home activities dominate the top positions – “Internet use”, “Cooking” or “TV” for example in places one to three.
While at the bottom of the table are activities that take place outdoors – and cost something: “Shopping with a stroll through the city” is the third last point in the leisure ranking, for “vacation” and “visiting cultural events” such as concerts, theater or events. This kind of pastime is currently at the bottom of the list of activities – also a drastic change in our habits.
