Leonore Gewessler was chosen on Sunday afternoon as the new federal spokeswoman for the Greens. 96.76 percent of the representatives voted for the 47-year-old styric and former activist, who now inherited Werner Kogler (63) at the head of the environmental party of Austria.
Gewessler was chosen for a period of three years, there were no opposing candidates. She accepts the choice “with great expectation and respect,” she said under the applause of the 250 party colleagues.
Thanks to “Green Giants”
In her application speech, Gewessler had already emphasized her great respect for the task for her. This was only possible in the team, she said and thanked Kogler: he was a “green giant” from whom she learned a lot and who was always behind her.
“It will be very, very good”
After the election, the praise gave the praise: “Leonore, I am convinced, we are convinced with great confidence that it will be very, very good, with you at the top.”
Gewessler, most recently Kogler’s vice in the party and all under Black and Green Climate Minister, is considered an Öko-Exhilaration of the Greens. It was only in 2019 that she could profile herself in the last coalition in the Environmental, Energy and Traffic department in the Last Coalition. For example, the introduction of the free climatic dick for young people goes to their account. The measure was considered the milestone of green politics in Austria and was recently saved.
Five other members of the Federal Council and the financial officer will also be elected on Sunday. In the meantime, the general secretariat, previously occupied at Olga Voglauer, is being abolished with a view to the switch to the opposition.
