The US state of Texas is currently experiencing the worst outbreak of measles and reports about children who are brought to hospitals with vitamin A poisoning. The reason for this seems to be a misleading recommendation by the US Minister of Health Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who propagates vitamin A as possible treatment against measles.
In Lubbock, Texas, Covenant Children’s Hospital is about different children with measles, who at the same time have remarkably high vitamin A values. This led to what delivery function. There are also similar cases in neighboring New Mexico, as the “Telegraaf” reported.
Increasing cases of measles and vitamin A poisoning
The outbreak is part of a national measles wave: the American health authority CDC reported nearly 500 cases in 21 states by March 28-a rise of 360 percent within a week. Two people have already died from the effects of the disease – the first Masernot – asterfalls in the United States for ten years.
Kennedy promised “whole, very good results”
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Fox News recently told that vitamin A “Mortality in measles could dramatically reduce”. He also claimed that the US government has already made vitamin A preparations according to West -Texas and doctors achieved “very, very good results”.
However, health experts warn that these statements can seduce parents without the proven MMR vaccination. According to CDC, the vaccination protects 97 percent against measles – a protection that is clearly not sufficiently used in Texas: 97 percent of the sick goods is not vaccinated.
Doctors warn of “unnecessary infections”
“If people wrongly believe that they have the choice between MMR vaccination or vitamin A, this only leads to unnecessary infections,” warned Peter Hotez, doctor in the Texas Children’s Hospital. Moreover, uncontrolled vitamin A -intake is risky: headache, nausea, vomiting and, in the worst case, severe liver damage can cause too high doses.
Confusion and increasing demand for vitamin A
According to reports, parents in Texas are increasingly buying a liver transc, which is rich in vitamin A to treat their children. But experts such as the pediatrician Anita Patel point out that high -dose vitamin A should only be administered in the hospital: “There is a scientific basis for vitamin A – but not in the form, as RFK Jr.
The CDC confirms that vitamin A in a medical environment can help relieve the severity of measles infection. At the same time, however, experts emphasize that the best protection is still vaccination.
