After seven months – McDonald’s sells burgers again in Kiev

Date:

The American fast food chain McDonald’s is selling burgers and fries in Kiev again almost seven months after the war in Ukraine. After talks with Ukrainian officials, security experts and suppliers, McDonald’s will initially only resume out-of-home deliveries, the company said in Kiev on Tuesday.

AFP reporters reported that numerous couriers were waiting in front of a branch in the Ukrainian capital in the morning to deliver orders. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba welcomed the opening as a “signal” to other international companies to operate in Ukraine despite the war.

Branches open again
McDonald’s announced in October the “complete reopening” of three branches in Kiev – including McDrive and express window orders. The reopening of seven more branches in Kiev and “additional restaurants in the capital and in other cities in the west of the country” are also planned.

McDonald’s closed its stores on February 24, the day Russia began its war of aggression against Ukraine.

The 850 restaurants in Russia were also closed. The branches were bought by businessman Alexander Gowor, who reopened them in June under the name “Lecker.Punkt” and a different logo.
