The government is waiting for Brussels to present its energy saving plan

Date:

He wants his proposals to align with what ministers agreed on Friday, following disagreements over corporate taxation in the sector.

The government does not want to gamble with the energy emergency plan and wants to prevent its proposals from being comparable to those from Brussels, as has already happened with the energy tax. The philosophy of the executive and the European Commission will be similar regarding electricity and gas savings programs in light of this harsh winter ahead. But in the details there can be a diabolical reality that presupposes a public discrepancy. By comparing. For this reason, Moncloa has decided to wait until the energy sector ministers reach agreement this Friday on the main features of that plan and then present the Spanish proposal.

We will finally have to wait for what comes out of that ministerial meeting. That is the slogan with which the experts of the Ministry of Ecological Transition work on the disaster plan. In principle, the Council of Ministers would give the green light that same Tuesday for that document to be sent to Brussels before September 30. But the deadlines have changed. An agreement will be reached that day and will be ratified in Spain later next week.

The differences between the Spanish proposal regarding the new tax on energy companies -and banks-, which the head of government, Pedro Sánchez, announced in July, and which has been under parliamentary consideration since mid-September. Just then, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, explained her proposal to tax extraordinary profits to energy companies. The idea of Brussels partly clarified the Spanish, who chooses to tax the income of companies in the energy sector, without calling it banking, as Spain wants.

At the time, the Ministry of Finance urged in any case to adapt to what was ultimately determined by the European Commission in the field of taxation. A circumstance that has rekindled the political debate over where Spain should stand before its European partners.

The main features of the emergency plan are in any case drawn by the Ecological Transition. Of the department headed by the third vice president, Teresa Ribera, they point out that it is a “strategic and ambitious” plan and that it is not “just a plan to hibernate”. That is, it has a long-lasting calling. It will serve not only for the coming months “but also to face the future,” these sources indicate.

On the one hand, ️ focuses on protecting families and businesses. In addition, it excludes the possibility of supply cuts in winter, as it is “guaranteed” in Spain, as Ribera has once said. In addition, it is “the first such comprehensive energy strategy paper”, these sources indicate, which a Member State will bring to the European Commission

And regarding the Christmas lights, insist that “there is no obligation to remove them.” The plan focuses more on recommendations than on legal obligations.
