Green electricity instead of gas – Austrian industry receives €5.7 billion in financing

Date:

Austrian industry will receive €5.7 billion in government funding by 2030 to convert its factories into more environmentally friendly installations. “Those who have guts should be rewarded,” explains Minister Leonore Gewessler. Instead of gas and coal, steel, brick, cement, glass producers and other energy-intensive companies, eg B. Use green electricity and renewable hydrogen. This will be €175 million in the coming year and €400 million per year thereafter.

If the new technology entails higher production costs, these will also be compensated by the government in the transition phase. €190 million per year is available for measures that increase energy efficiency. The environmental financing is foreseen in the coming years of 600 million euros.

Additional €600 million for research and development
Some sectors (semiconductors, life science, automotive) will receive an additional 600 million euros for research and development by 2026. Financing is still under negotiation. The new technology will make it easier to meet the EU’s climate targets. Failure to do so could result in fines running into the billions.
