At catering wholesaler METRO, debit card payments and the postal program have been repeatedly paralyzed in the shops since Monday. It will probably take until the end of this week to fix the issues.
That’s bitter! Since Monday, METRO customers have had to withdraw or pay by direct debit. Reason: The ATMs only work to a very limited extent. The reason for this are enormous technical IT problems, which are not only visible at the cash registers in the stores, but also paralyze the mail program of the catering wholesaler.
Patience is required
Is there a hacker attack behind the problems? “We can’t deny that, but we can’t confirm that either,” said METRO Austria spokeswoman Alexa Kazda-Klabouch. “Because we are currently still looking for the error ourselves.” In any case, patience is required: the company expects the problems to be resolved by the end of the week.
