The CEOE demands restoration of the sustainability factor limiting the rise in pensions

Date:

He accuses the Executive of “not having done his homework”, as the system’s problem will not be solved with “patches” such as increasing the maximum bases, but with “structural measures”.

Leading the way against the government on such a delicate issue as pensions, the CEOE is now demanding that the sustainability factor that was abolished a year ago be reinstated, also with unanimous agreement in the social dialogue. This was stated by the vice president of the employers’ organization, Íñigo Fernández de Mesa, on Wednesday during a working day organized by Adecco and APD.

“We require the CEOE to include the sustainability factor. Without him, it will not be possible to rebalance the pension issue,” warned Fernández de Mesa, stressing that the “pension problem will not be solved by patches here and there”, but rather with “structural measures” that on the axis of sustainability.

In this sense, the also president of the Institute of Economic Studies (IEE) denounced the Executive’s policy of increasing corporate taxes and more specifically the increase of the maximum premiums by 8.6% without prior consultation with social agents, something that in his opinion, will have a “minimal, almost negligible” collection effect and, on the other hand, lead to less employment.

This news comes just as the government has opened the social dialogue table to negotiate the second phase of the pension reform, in a very tense environment due to increasingly tense relations with employers. So when employers warned just a few days ago that they had “lost confidence” in the executive to negotiate this reform, which should be ready before the end of the year, this Wednesday went one step further and accused of “don’t do your homework» in one of the issues that most concern citizens.
