As confirmed in the office of Lower Austrian Health Minister Ulrike Königsberger-Ludwig, the number of diphtheria cases in the state increased by ten in the second half of the year to a total of twelve people. The “Krone” asked how to classify the findings and reveal how best to protect yourself from infection.
As reported, the first cases of diphtheria became known in Austria in June. Both went back to infected young men from Lower Austria. As a result, one infected person died from the contagious disease.
Ten other findings related to the infectious disease have since become known in Lower Austria. “Three of them were only recently reported,” authorities reveal. Here too, the increasing number of infections is probably directly related to the increasing number of refugees.
