More regional jobs – is the export economy obsolete as a job engine?

Date:

Vorarlberg likes to boast of being an exporter – but is this zeal good for society and the job market? “No,” says Swiss economist Werner Vontobel, who recently visited Bregenz. He argues for a radical change of the system and explains why regionality can do more than the pursuit of an export economy.

A new understanding of the market economy was recently discussed during a discussion evening at the Kosmos Theater in Bregenz. Among the guests was business journalist and economist Werner Vontobel. And what he had to say made some of the public shake their ears: a systemic change is needed – away from competing for the cheapest labor and manufacturing locations, to good regional jobs and what society really needs.
