According to an insider, Apple will be threatened with an additional EU antitrust lawsuit in the coming weeks in a dispute with the world’s largest music streaming provider Spotify. This could follow an investigation into a complaint from Spotify, a person familiar with the matter told Reuters.
Additional lawsuits, described in an additional statement of objections, are usually brought against companies when EU competition watchdogs have gathered new evidence or changed some elements to support their arguments. The European Commission declined to comment. Initially none was available from Apple.
Last year, the European Commission accused the iPhone manufacturer of abusing a dominant position in music streaming services after a complaint from competitor Spotify.
The Commission complained that competitors must use Apple’s in-app payment system. In addition, the US group forbids its rivals from informing Apple device users about cheaper reference alternatives. The case is one of many against Apple to open in the summer of 2020.
