Ambitious plans: two operators want to set up places for mobile homes in Murstadt. New hotels are also on schedule.
Günter Riegler, Graz City Councilor for Tourism, is in a good mood. As reported, the city reached a historic peak for tourism in August (133,500 overnight stays). And apparently hotel managers also see so much potential in the capital that they spend a lot of money on new beds.
The most spectacular innovation: Harry’s Home is coming to Graz. Entrepreneur Harald Ultsch also runs the Adler, one of the most renowned hotels in Innsbruck. The planned 280-room location couldn’t get any hipper: between Helmut List Hall and the Science Tower.Near the main station, where the demolition of the old C&A building has left a huge chasm, the Radisson is growing and expected to open in years 2024. Planned increase in beds: 460.
The Ibis at the central station, on the other hand, closes when the New Year’s fireworks are fired. How it will go on there is still unclear. At the beginning of November, the new Ibis Styles opened on the Waltendorfer Gurtel (formerly Mercure). There has long been talk of the A2Z skyscraper at the Autobahn slip road in Liebenau – it was also planned to house a hotel. The Motel One has just opened its doors on Jakominiplatz. By the way, in the best company. Because that’s also where the Dorotheum is located.
There are a total of 65 hotels in Graz, of which a third are in the 4/5 star category; with the planned renovations, the number of beds should increase to 8,200.
And, brand new: camping in the middle of the city is completely hip. Only: until now Graz had no camping site. City councilor Günter Riegler: “We are working to change that.” There are already two interested parties who certainly want to exploit one on a larger scale.
