The second round of collective labor agreement negotiations for shop employees ended without result on Thursday. The next hearing is scheduled for November 10. The GPA union is demanding ten percent more wages for its approximately 430,000 employees.
“The employer offer of 3.5 percent plus a lump sum is completely inadequate and falls short of our expectation of a lasting pay increase, which workers so desperately need given the ongoing price increases. The offer is anything but appreciative compared to the performance of the employees in over the past year,” said GPA union chief negotiator Helga Fichtinger.
Work meetings planned throughout Austria
“Our demand for a ten percent salary increase remains fully intact. Working meetings will be held throughout Austria from November 7-9, during which we will inform employees about the importance of our request and the status of the negotiations,” said Martin Müllauer, president of the GPA Economic Division Trade.
In addition to the pay increase, the union is demanding a fixed amount of 150 euros per month for students, receipt of all overpayments, easier access to the sixth week of vacation and an overtime allowance from the first hour of overtime.
