Red Bull dividend – 866 million euros for Mateschitz before his death

Dietrich Mateschitz received 866 million euros in Red Bull dividends before his death. The record payout consisted of part of the annual profit, retained earnings and a special distribution.

The maker of energy drinks paid Mateschitz 866 million euros in October, report Bloomberg news agency and Dossier journalist Ashwien Sankholkar on Thursday. The payout was about 28 percent higher than in the previous year. At that time, Mateschitz had transferred 680.5 million euros, according to the file.

Mateschitz owned 49 percent of Red Bull, the shares went to his son Mark Mateschitz after his death. The current 2021 distribution consists of (almost) half of the distributed annual profit of EUR 757 million, half of a distribution of EUR 500 million from retained earnings and a special distribution to Mateschitz of EUR 250 million.

Exempt from obligations in 2021
According to a statement published by “Dossier”, Mateschitz was released from his obligations during 2021. Most of the distributions from annual profits and retained earnings went to the Thai majority shareholders. Shareholder Chalerm Yoovidhya also received a special distribution of three million euros.

$15.1 billion fortune
The Red Bull founder’s net worth was $15.1 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. According to Bloomberg, Red Bull increased its unconsolidated turnover by a quarter to 5.3 billion euros last year, net turnover rose by 37 percent. The full annual figures have not yet been published.
