The drivers of restaurant delivery service Lieferando should receive more money for the costs in the winter months. The company, which belongs to the Just Eat Takeaway delivery service group, will pay a winter bonus of 50 cents “per hour worked” for the first time between November and March, Lieferando announced on Monday. There should be an extra 50 cents per hour for work during the evening rush hour from Friday to Sunday.
This allowed drivers to earn up to a euro more at work during the popular winter delivery times. Before Christmas, the suppliers also received an inflation compensation premium of up to 300 euros – depending on the contractually agreed working hours of the couriers. The winter equipment is extended with thermal underwear.
According to Lieferando, drivers earned an average of more than 14 euros per hour nationally every month “with a guaranteed hourly wage of 12 euros plus variable wage components, such as bonuses per assignment delivered.”
“Nothing can run for less than 15 euros per hour”
The Food-Gaststätten (NGG) trade union described the measures as “eyewash”. “For us it is very clear: nothing can run for less than 15 euros per hour,” says Mark Baumeister, NGG head of the catering department. Many couriers do not even have a company bicycle or a company mobile phone. The union is calling for collective bargaining and is recruiting more members at the sites.
Lieferando has both regional works councils and a national general works council. Despite white spots in some regions, the company is now on the right track, says Baumeister.
