Serious accusations against the airline Kuwait Airways: Women who have applied to become flight attendants report extremely discriminatory and sexist job interviews. At a recruitment appointment in Madrid, interested parties were allegedly asked to strip down to their underwear. Spanish media reported about women who would have left the casting crying.
The Spanish daily “El Diario” was the first to report on the allegations of three applicants. One of them, 23-year-old Bianca, explained in the article that the interlocutors wanted to use the measure “to check that we do not have tattoos”.
But other small things were also grounds for exclusion: a small scar on another candidate’s eyebrow or her “old” age, namely 37 years! There are also accusations of racism. Another woman, who appeared to have been singled out for her dark complexion, told El Diario, “I felt vilified, discriminated against, just like Ware, it hit me hard.”
According to the applicants, this would have led to an even more unpleasant phase for the shortlisted women. Bianca was asked to pull up her dress. Then she pulled it up to her knees. But that wasn’t enough.
The airline promises to investigate the incidents
The recruiter, from recruitment company Meccti, who held the casting in a four-star hotel in Madrid, apparently wanted to see more of her skin. Finally Bianca stood there half naked. Other interested parties would have left the hotel crying because of the humiliating events.
The airline reacted with surprise to the serious allegations. A statement said that the same agency has been trusted for flight attendants for five years. Meccti also works for 90 percent of the airlines “in this region”. “There have never been such allegations,” said Kuwait Airways. Such degrading and discriminatory practices would not be tolerated. An investigation has already started.
Israelis are not allowed on board
A few years ago, Kuwait Airways made headlines for refusing to carry Israeli citizens. At the time, the company was referring to a 1964 Kuwaiti boycott law, which prohibits any agreement with Israelis under penalty of severe penalties. A competent court even agreed with Kuwait Airways. The “scandal verdict” also caused a lot of excitement.
