Christian Kern has his next job in his pocket. The ex-SPÖ chancellor is being hired by German restructuring firm Zachert Private Equity. “I will be actively involved as a co-investor and member of the advisory board,” says Kern.
It is a German holding company active in the DACH region, which restructures ailing companies in order to create an opportunity to continue. The company wants to expand, she announced in a broadcast on Thursday. Many Austrian former chancellors of the ÖVP and SPÖ hire themselves out in the private sector, for example with positions on the supervisory board.
“The new corporate advisory board is actively involved in the implementation of corporate strategy and supports ongoing acquisitions,” Zachert Private Equity said in a statement Thursday.
Kern has been CEO of European Locomotive Leasing since September
After leaving politics, Kern became the managing partner and owner of Blue Minds Company, which focuses on investments in sustainable technologies and is based in Vienna. In September 2022, he was appointed CEO of the European Locomotive Leasing Group, owned by AXA and Credit Agricole. He also runs “CK Assetmanagement GmbH”, according to the Wirtschafts-Compass.
Abandoned station at the Russian State Railways
The former ÖBB boss stepped down from the supervisory board of the Russian state railway RZD after Russia invaded Ukraine. Before the outbreak of war, the ex-politician had said his job was not political or lobbying, but that of an industry insider. However, as a result of the war, the RZD had become “part of war logistics”, so Kern pulled the string over “this senseless aggression”.
