The majority received the climate bonus last autumn, now those who only met their payment obligations later will also receive it. The last tranche of the 2022 climate bonus will flow from today, Thursday. According to the responsible Ministry of Climate Protection, about 457,000 people in Austria receive it.
This also applies to those who have only moved their main residence to Austria in the first half of 2022, have just been born or whose status as an alien has not yet been clarified by the Ministry of the Interior. The eligibility criterion is still that you have registered your main residence in Austria for at least 183 days – with legal residence and regardless of origin or citizenship. About 101,500 minors are among the beneficiaries.
Most by bank transfer, the rest by post
According to the ministry, the climate bonus comes without application and automatically by bank transfer or by post as a voucher. About 300,000 people receive it directly on their account, about 150,000 now receive the climate bonus via the post office as an RSa letter. De Post will deliver the vouchers in the second half of February, according to the newspaper.
The climate bonus is central to the eco-social tax reform. It is intended to reward climate-friendly behavior. As part of the anti-inflation package, it was increased from originally 100 to 200 euros to 250 euros for the past year, depending on the residential area, and an additional 250 euros of inflation compensation was added.
From 2023, the regular, staggered climate allowance will be paid out again. Like last year, the first payment wave of the 2023 climate bonus is expected to take place in the autumn.
