The TechnoAlpin company from Volders in the Tyrolean lowlands completed the snow cannons in the French World Cup locations Courchevel and Méribel. However, the largest order in the company’s history was related to another major event in Georgia that is about to begin.
On “home” snow it is of course great to drive, you could say exaggerated because of the successful start of the World Cup by the Austrians. Because TechnoAlpin, specialist in snow cannons with headquarters in Volders, will provide white slopes for the big event.
The economic background: TechnoAlpin has been working closely with the ski areas of Courchevel and Méribel for many years. “We have a strong French branch that optimally supports our customers on site,” explains TechnoAlpin director Erich Gummerer. The snowmaking facilities in the two ski areas were therefore optimized and modernized again for the World Cup.
Accurate calculations for the World Cup
Specialists analyzed the specifics of each location, determined the amount of snow needed and calculated the dimensions of the system. 65 new snow cannons were delivered. Just like in Tyrol, natural snow was quite scarce last winter, also at the World Cup locations.
250 snow cannons to Georgia
TechnoAlpin is associated with other major events: in the ski resort of Bakuriani (Georgia), the tender for snow cannons was won and about 250 snow cannons were delivered in 2021 and 2022. The World Snowboarding, Freestyling and Freeskiing World Championships will start there on February 19.
“When the World Cup was awarded, those responsible in Georgia promised that the event would be organized to the highest international standards. It is also about promoting the future of winter sports in Georgia,” says Nemanja Dogo, Sales Manager at TechnoAlpin. This largest order from the Tyrolean company included the laying of 29 kilometers of water pipes and 26 kilometers of data cables.
