Last April brought more than a million overnight stays in Vienna – for the first time since March 2020 the million was exceeded again. From the pre-crisis year 2019, the outcome is already 66 percent of April, the calculated plus for April 2021 is 1164 percent. The net turnover from overnight stays amounts to 37.8 million euros so far.
Vienna ended April with a total of 1,041,000 overnight stays, representing a calculated increase of 1164 percent compared to April of the previous year, when the accommodation was closed to holidaymakers – and accounting for 66 percent of the pre-crisis level in 2019.
German guests top the rankings
Most overnight stays came from Germany (261,000, up 2294 percent) and Austria (230,000, up 442 percent), followed by Ukraine (33,000, up 4063 percent), Italy (45,000, up 2675 percent) United States (38,000, up 2274 percent), Spain (34,000, up 4242 percent), Great Britain (34,000, up 2634 percent), France (28,000, up 2061 percent), Israel (27,000 , up 11,869 percent) and Romania (26,000, up 1421 percent) in the top 10 for the year.
A total of 285,000 overnight stays were registered in the other markets.
The net turnover from overnight stays amounted to 37.8 million euros
The net overnight turnover of Viennese accommodation providers in March (data for April are not yet available) amounted to 37.8 million euros, an arithmetic increase of 404 percent. In the period from January to March, the companies managed to raise around 76 million euros, which is 307 percent more than in the same period in 2021.
Bed occupancy at 28.2 percent
The average occupancy of the hotel beds in April was 46.2 percent, that of the rooms around 60 percent. In the period from January to April, bed occupancy was 28.2 percent and room occupancy was around 37 percent. In total, about 62,000 hotel beds were available in Vienna in April 2022, about 27,000 beds more (plus 75.8 percent) than in April 2021.
