“Brutal Invasion” – George W. Bush befriends Iraq and Ukraine

Date:

The invasion of Iraq was “cruel and unjustified” – then-Commander in Chief, ex-US President George W. Bush, said Wednesday. What sounds like belated self-consciousness was just a slip of the tongue: The 75-year-old had confused Iraq and Ukraine. He immediately corrected himself, attributing the decline to his age.

The 43rd US president, who had hardly changed in appearance but seemed a little nervous, was speaking at an event in Dallas, Texas. And there it was handed out against Russia. The elections were rigged, opponents of the system were imprisoned or “otherwise barred from participating in the electoral process”. This leads to a lack of “checks and balances” (the classic social separation of powers) in Russia.

“Utterly unjustified and brutal invasion of Iraq”
He then referred specifically to the situation in Ukraine – and mixed up things. He spoke of “one man’s decision to carry out a completely unwarranted and brutal invasion of Iraq” – correcting himself in the second with a shake of the head: “I mean in Ukraine. 75 …”, he referred to his old age as justification. Understanding laughter came from the audience.

Along with the terror of September 11, the US invasion of Iraq is probably the most defining event of Bush’s two White House terms (2001-2009). He ordered it in 2003, citing weapons of mass destruction allegedly in the possession of dictator Saddam Hussein’s regime. The Bush administration has provided no evidence to this day.
