The Ministry of Transport has accepted the resignation of Isaías Táboas and Isabel Pardo de Vera after the contracted trains were incompatible with the narrow-gauge tunnels
The Minister of Transport, Raquel Sánchez, has accepted the resignations of the President of Renfe, Isaías Táboas, and of the Secretary of State for Transport, Isabel Pardo de Vera, after several weeks of controversy over the dimensions of the trains designed for the tracks of Asturias and Cantabria, lower than that of many of the tunnels they would have to pass through in both regions. The decision, which this newspaper has learned of, comes a few hours before the meeting that Minister Sánchez himself was to hold this afternoon with the presidents of Cantabria and Asturias, Miguel Ángel Revilla and Adrián Barbón respectively.
Renfe and Adif announced in mid-February the resignation of two heads of both companies due to an error in the dimensions of the trains. From Ciudadanos, however, they believe that these layoffs were a “make-up” with the aim of not giving more explanations for the loss of more than 250 million euros.
