A week after Volta Trucks went bankrupt, production stopped at Steyr Automotive. The 150 employees who worked on the Swedes’ electric trucks are currently at home. What happens to them? Open. In any case, the Steyr bosses believe in a positive solution.
What’s next? That is the question that has been hanging over the Steyr Automotive site for a week. Last Tuesday it was announced that Swedish electric truck start-up Volta Trucks was filing for bankruptcy, putting what is currently its most important future project into a question mark.
“Our team has done an excellent job,” says Florian Mayrhofer, who shares management of the vehicle manufacturer with Günther Heiden. The 150 employees involved in the production of the electric trucks are temporarily at home, Mayrhofer reveals.
Research is being conducted into shortening working hours
Time accounts act as a buffer here. What will actually happen to them remains to be seen. The possibility of reduced working hours for the affected employees is being investigated. Steyr Automotive hopes that the project can be continued. “There is a lot of interest in continuing this,” Heiden confirms.
“The vehicle is 98 percent fully developed.” It is said that there is contact with the curators. “We are confident that a positive solution will be found,” says Mayrhofer, but also speaks of a “troubled and challenging time.”
“System of superlatives”
But there are also positive things to report: the photovoltaic system installed by Burgenland Energie on seven hall roofs, which produces a quarter of the power station’s electricity needs, has been put into operation. Approximately 17,000 solar panels were installed on an area of 85,000 square meters. “A system of superlatives,” says Stephan Sharma, director of Energie Burgenland.
