Austrians have been paying for months to heat their houses and apartments and provide them with electricity. While the first providers are already passing on gas prices, which have recently dropped noticeably again, to customers, the electricity price remains at a very high level – in the federal capital it has even risen for tens of thousands of Wien Energie customers. But those affected need not resign themselves to it.
Austria was hit by the energy cost baton at different speeds: first, the energy suppliers in the east raised prices – for new customers, shortly after the start of the Russian offensive war against Ukraine, some existing customers with price-guaranteed contracts only came to kiss the hand in the autumn or winter. People waited a little longer in the west, but the high prices have also arrived there.
However, we are now in a phase in which individual providers are still raising prices for some of their customers. Gas rates in particular are getting cheaper again. And if you don’t want to wait for the good will of your energy supplier, you can significantly reduce your energy bill yourself. We’ll tell you how.
