What does the future hold for the bankruptcy of kika/Leiner in Styria? SPÖ Social adviser Doris Kampus, AMS boss Karl-Heinz Snobe and trade unionist Norbert Schunko (GPA) discussed this question during a round table discussion in Graz on Monday. We have answers to the most important questions.
How many employees are affected by the bankruptcy of the furniture store?
166 employees have been registered with the AMS signaling system for dismissal, including 40 employees in Leoben, 45 in Judenburg, 33 in Liezen and 43 in Feldbach. “60 percent of those affected are women. The share of over-50s is 46 percent,” explains Karl-Heinz Snobe.
When will the first layoffs take place?
If several deadlines have passed, the company can announce cancellations from August 16. “Our advice to the employees: stay calm now and don’t sign anything, otherwise you will lose financial claims,” Norbert Schunko calls on appeal.
What job opportunities do those affected have?
“We will not let anyone down,” promises state council Kampus. 25 companies have already shown interest in kika/Leiner employees. In addition, there are currently 40 vacancies in the furniture sector.
How does the country help?
About the Insolvency Law Foundation, which makes 500 training places available. In the care foundation, interested parties can be trained for jobs in the care sector. There is unemployment benefit and a scholarship.
How are the employees doing at the moment?
According to the union, the company hardly gives them any information. Some customers are brazen in the sales race and even disassemble cheap furniture themselves. There were riots at individual sites in Styria – much to the chagrin of employees.
