Living in Malaga: 10 quiet municipalities where you can buy a house for little

Date:

Beyond the coast, the interior of the province of Malaga hides a multitude of charming towns with affordable housing, which combine historical and natural wealth with quality of life and tranquility

With an average price per square meter of 2,287 euros, Malaga remains by far the most expensive of the eight Andalusian provinces to buy a house, according to the quarterly sales price report from piso.com. But in addition to the most desirable tourist destinations and high-end developments, you will also find beautiful and quiet corners. You would also be surprised that buying a house in Malaga can also be very cheap.

From the charming towns of northern Malaga inland to others closer to the coast, but with affordable housing, the province offers as much diversity in property as it does in landscape.

With cozy streets and even more beautiful nature, the municipality of Campillos, in the northwest of the province, is also one of the cheapest in Malaga to buy a house, with an average price of 659 euros per square meter.

Campillos has just over 8,500 inhabitants and its charms are its stately buildings and the Lagunas de Campillos nature reserve, ideal for hiking, in addition to its proximity to beautiful enclaves such as the Guadalhorce reservoir and the Caminito del Rey.

Also in the north of Malaga, but in the eastern part, is the town of Archidona, declared a historical-artistic site and with a rich heritage responsible for the Phoenician, Roman and Arab past. Besides the charm and history of the streets and squares, buying an apartment in Archidona means doing it for a very attractive average price: 735 euros per square meter.

Bordering the province of Granada and at the foot of the Sierra de Tejeda, and with just over 2,000 inhabitants, Alcaucín is another economic alternative to looking for housing in the province. The municipality has a wide range of homes for sale at affordable prices, from apartments for less than 50,000 euros to three-room homes for just over 100,000 euros.

Although it is in the interior of the Axarquia, it can be reached from Alcaucín in about half an hour to coastal towns such as Torre del Mar, Torrox or Nerja.

Also inland from La Axarquia, and in close proximity to the Sierra de Almijara, is the municipality of Cómpeta, another charming town with beautiful views. Despite its small size, Cómpeta has a wide range of properties, at affordable prices: for just over 100,000 euros you can buy a three-bedroom house to move into.

If you are looking for a quiet municipality, but with more services, for an average price much lower than that of the province (1118 euros per square meter), we recommend that you buy a house in Antequera. Although the city has more than 40,000 inhabitants, the municipality of Antequera is one of the largest in Spain, and it is possible to find housing in the city center as well as in remote locations. In addition to its historical heritage, the city offers you an extraordinary natural environment.

Despite being one of the most visited municipalities in Andalusia, with over 30,000 inhabitants, Ronda is also a good choice if you’re looking for a quiet, charming town with everything you need to live. Aside from the old town, declared a Site of Cultural Interest, and the spectacular landscapes, another attraction of the city is the average price of housing, 1,288 euros per square meter, according to data from piso.com.

Another of the inland white towns of Malaga that boasts pleasant corners and spectacular natural surroundings is Coín, located just 40 minutes from Malaga and other coastal towns such as Fuengirola and Benalmádena. An attractive alternative if you also take the average price of real estate into account: buying an apartment in Coín costs about 1,547 euros per square meter.

If you are looking for a quiet city with affordable housing in the metropolis of Malaga, then Pizarra is an interesting option, a municipality with a beautiful natural environment and cozy streets and squares. Just over half an hour from the capital, but far from the hustle and bustle of the big city, you can buy a house for an average price of 1,529 euros per square meter.

For a very similar price (1550 euros per square meter), but closer to the capital, you can buy a house in the city of Cártama, also in the metropolis of Málaga. With about 25,000 inhabitants, the city maintains the rhythm of life of small municipalities, with the advantage of being only 17 kilometers from the city.

North of Mijas and near Coín and Cártama is Alhaurín el Grande, with about 24,000 inhabitants: another white town with well-maintained streets surrounded by nature and at the foot of the mountains. In this municipality you can also buy real estate for an affordable price, far below the provincial average: 1,626 euros per square meter.
