The 700 employees of Team 7 waive their working hours and salary until the end of September. Yesterday, Friday, production came to a standstill for the first time during ongoing work. The current sales crisis coincides with the opening of the new headquarters in Ried im Innkreis.
Georg Emprechtinger knows that good timing is everything – whether it’s innovations, business locations or strategic decisions. That’s why yesterday left a stale aftertaste for the owner of Team 7, even though it should have been a holiday for the company.
“It doesn’t feel good at all to open such a generation and future project and at the same time we have a relatively bad employment situation. That doesn’t go well together,” says the 63-year-old, who heads the company. company of furniture manufacturer of natural wood with his son Stefan and Hermann Pretzl in Ried im Innkreis.
Since 2014, work has been underway on the realization of the new head office. There was even an international architecture competition, but the winning project could not be implemented. The building worth €31 million and the energy center worth €5 million were officially inaugurated on the day when production was first stopped during ongoing operations.
“We must respond”
Because: After the three-week company holiday, every Friday is now free until the end of September. That means five and a half hours less working time per week for each of the 700 employees, who also waive their salary. “We tried to prevent that, but the drop in profit is too great. We have to react,” explains Emprechtinger, who has fulfilled “a lifelong dream” with the new headquarters.
When it comes to ecology, exclamation marks apply: waste, including grinding dust, is incinerated and produces heat. Water from the sprinkler pool helps cool the room. There is no air conditioning, the window sashes can be automatically tilted at night for ventilation. The construction of an additional production hall was halted. “We don’t need them now.”
