The government of Saudi Arabia shot down the ecological bird a few years ago with its plan to build a ski resort in the desert landscape. Other crazy projects like The Line, Oxagon or Sindalah followed. Now the sheikhs are planning a new monument for the capital Riyadh. With oversized standards.
The first signs of The Line, a city 170 kilometers long, 500 meters high and 200 meters wide, can already be seen on Google Maps. Until now, there are excavation marks in the sand, grooves that have been dug out for a few kilometers. The planned completion of the first construction phase in 2030 is still a long way off. But: Construction is underway. Which proves that all the so-called megalomaniacal megaprojects of the Saudi government are no pipe dreams. The sheikhs are serious. Very serious.
