It pays off again: Austrians are switching from electricity and gas more often

Date:

In times of rising prices, many households optimize their costs, including for electricity and gas. According to E-Control, 281,900 customers switched suppliers between January and September, compared to just 165,900 in the same period last year.

In contrast to last year, the savings potential is greater in many places. With a comparison, for example, using a rate calculator you can save several hundred euros per year, especially with gas the potential is large and can sometimes amount to more than 1000 euros per year for a family with higher consumption. After the turbulence of last year, competition is flourishing again and the change is paying off, E-Control said on Tuesday.

Switch mainly with gas
So far, the switching rate is highest in Lower Austria, with 9.2 percent for electricity and 12.6 percent for gas. This is probably due to announced contract terminations. Viennese changed providers most often, while residents of Vorarlberg changed providers least.

Because energy prices are still high, E-Control recommends comparing prices but also continuing to save energy. “Just one degree less room heat results in savings of up to six percent,” says board member Alfons Haber.

New platform for companies
From now on, companies looking for cheaper commercial rates for electricity and gas can compare corresponding offers on the tarife.at platform. A maximum of 250 rates can be viewed there, the platform, which advertises free comparisons and minimum time commitment, wrote in a press release on Tuesday.
