While firefighters were extinguishing a burning car in a forest in Gablitz, Lower Austria, on Tuesday, a 33-year-old suddenly appeared out of nowhere. He was heavily drunk and covered in cuts. The background is still unclear.
Safecrackers, wood thieves and the like often hang around Riederberg in the border area of the districts of St. Pölten and Tulln. At 6 a.m. on Tuesday, a burning car in a forest caused a major alarm in Gablitz. During the firefighting attack, a 33-year-old with cuts suddenly found himself almost completely naked next to one of the comrades. The Viennese is said to have sown wild anger and fear under the influence of alcohol, after which passers-by alerted the police.
One of the first eyewitnesses was Walter Schleihl, innkeeper at the Laabacher Schenke: “At first I only saw flames and thought the forest was on fire. I immediately ran there and there was the burning but empty car. Then a scantily clad man came and I took him to the firefighters who had arrived,” he tells the “Krone”.
The victim was taken to hospital and initially gave very confused information. Drugs may also have been involved. The National Criminal Investigation Agency (LKA) is investigating how the injuries and the fire could have occurred – it is said to have taken place in the 33-year-old’s company car. The same goes for the exact background. According to information from Krone, the car was set on fire. Fortunately, the fire itself was quickly brought under control.
The injured person received first aid
“We were initially called to the forest road because of a suspected fire. “But it soon became clear that a car was on fire,” said Gablitz fire chief Franz Endler. Until the Viennese arrived, it was a normal mission for the experienced Florianis. “We immediately started the rescue chain,” Endler said.
The investigation is still ongoing in all directions, crime scene groups and fire investigators from the LKA were on site. The police initially assumed that there was malicious intent. It cannot currently be ruled out that the injured person was abducted and left in a remote location.
