People who cannot pay their energy bills do not have to worry about their electricity or gas being cut off this winter. Given persistently high energy prices, domestic electricity, gas and district heating suppliers are offering financially disadvantaged households the option to pay in installments.
There will be no energy cuts due to payment arrears in the period from December 1 to March 31. The Gas Heat Association and Oesterreichs Energie announced on Friday that charging interest on installment payments by domestic customers will be suspended during this period.
Customer Assistance Fund
Verbund boss Michael Strugl referred to his own relief fund for his company’s customers, which has been endowed with 10 million euros. However, people who cannot pay their electricity bills often do not ask for help.
“Report to the companies, including the social institutions,” he called for. Customers would also have a legal right to payment in instalments.
