Small but expensive – Christmas trees: This is how much the pine trees cost this year

Date:

Price comparison in new Styria: A Christmas tree one and a half meters high costs an average of 31 euros.

December has arrived and the Christmas tree stalls are literally springing up from the ground. The question arises: how much will the “noble pine tree” cost me this year? And what should I pay attention to when buying?

The Styrian Chamber of Labor looked at 28 suppliers and made a price comparison: a one and a half meter high Nordmann fir costs an average of 31 euros this year. Trees of two meters are available for about 42 euros.

Compared to last year, smaller trees in particular have become more expensive. “If the one-meter tree is very beautiful, it will cost a maximum of 35 euros. If a large tree is not that nice, you can get it for 35 euros,” explains AK market researcher Andrea Büdenbender. The Trieb family offers the cheapest price per meter of seven euros with trees from Weiz.

Hardware stores and garden centers also offer cheap Christmas trees. The only problem is that often not local pine trees are sold, but trees from Germany or even Denmark. For more information, look at the tire on the trunk.

By the way, the trend this year is smaller, slimmer Christmas trees – although a one-meter tree has to grow for three to five years. In addition to the annual rings, you can also see how fresh the pine tree is from the cutting surface. Once the dream tree is found, all that remains is to sharpen it, network it and put it into a cross. This year these are available for between two and fifteen euros.
