In Austria, 33,000 jobs depend on Apple’s app marketplaces and the competing operating system Android for mobile phones. This is according to a study by the American market research firm Progressive Policy Institute on behalf of Apple.
With numerous overlaps, 29,000 jobs are linked to the Android operating system and 23,000 to the Apple iOS operating system. Three million jobs across Europe depend on mobile phone operating systems.
Number of app jobs increased during the pandemic
30 countries in Europe were registered for the study. The number of app jobs has increased by more than a quarter since 2019, i.e. before the corona pandemic.
There are half a million jobs in Britain, Germany and France each. The institute concludes that the app industry has made a significant contribution to keeping Europe’s economy running during the pandemic. Most developers are at home in both worlds, Apple and Android.
