There are currently four discount stores in Austria: Hofer, Penny, Lidl and Norma. But what makes them different from conventional supermarkets? Krone+ has looked at the differences and explains their pricing policy.
This time you will find a few bananas here, a vacuum cleaner there and reading glasses in the range. I quickly grabbed a can of Coke and condoms from the checkout and my shopping at the discount store was done. This is exactly how Hofer and Co. imagine the experience in their stores. This is significantly different from shopping in a conventional supermarket.
