The fronts between employees and employers have also hardened in the IT industry. Even after six rounds of talks, no agreement could be reached on a new collective labor agreement. The union is now calling for a large protest meeting.
According to the GPA trade union, employers recently offered an increase of 6.25 percent on the actual salary amount and 7.25 percent on the collective labor agreement minimum wages. However, according to the GPA, the basis for the negotiations is the average annual inflation of 7.75 percent over the previous year.
Union: “IT industry not a crisis industry”
“The current supply is still inadequate and well below underlying annual inflation,” GPA negotiator Sandra Steiner said on Monday. “It is incomprehensible why, especially in the IT industry, which is certainly not a crisis industry, a deal below the inflation rate should be accepted.”
The union is therefore calling for a protest meeting in front of the Austrian Economic Chamber (WKÖ) in Vienna on January 24 to emphasize the union’s demands.
