Flights will be canceled at many German airports on Thursday and this will also affect travelers from Austria. Austrian Airlines (AUA) recommends checking the flight status.
The Verdi union has called on airport security staff to strike for a whole day. Eleven airports have been affected, including Frankfurt, Berlin, Stuttgart and Hamburg.
The strike will start at most airports in the early morning hours and end at midnight. The connections between Germany and Austria are also affected.
1100 affected flights
According to estimates by the German airport association ADV, around 1,100 flights are canceled or cannot depart until late. Berlin, Hamburg and Stuttgart airports have canceled all flights, while Düsseldorf and Cologne want to keep some.
In Frankfurt, AUA parent company Lufthansa wants to maintain most of its program, including long-haul flights.
In all cases, travelers are encouraged to check the status of their flights to avoid being stranded at the airport. The strikes in Germany were called by the union to demand higher wages.
